The entire lock gear body must be replaced.

A. No, There are only 2 screws to remove to replace the gearbox. Once you remove the handle set and lock gear, there are two machine screws that attach the gearbox to the lock strip faceplate. Remove the screws and attach you new gearbox, making sure that the lock shift rail is connected to the tranfer bar on the back side of the lock strip faceplate.

Manual locks engage the locking points when the lever handle is lifted upwards.
