Caradco used only a couple of different multi-point locking systems on the doors they produced over the years. They used the “4101341” lock and also locks provided by FUHR.

Caradco 4101341 Series
American Key Cylinder OVER Lever Handle
Characteristics of the 4101341 multi-point locks used by Caradco / Jeld-Wen door manufacturers.
4101341 series locks are available in (3) configurations – “Active” , “In-Active, “Passive”.
- Active – For Single and Double door panels that are the primary means of entrance and exit. Usually has exterior key lock.
- In-Active – For secondary handle locking panels on double door configurations. Door locks by lifting handle, then rotating interior thumbturn. Usually on doors that have an astragal mounted on the edge of the secondary panel. Typically lock strip concealed by astragal.
- Passage – For secondary “handle locking” panels on double doors. Lock strip is visable / not concealed by astragal. No interior thumb turn, handle is disabled by dead bolt from active door.
- Fixed, Sidelite or door panels with top and bottom flush bolts – No locks available for door configurations other than “Handle Activated”
Caradco ONLY Used 60mm (2 3/8″) backset on all the 4101341 handle operated locking systems.

FUHR European Multi-point lock
Euro Profile Cylinder UNDER Lever Handle
Characteristics of the FUHR multi-point locks used by Caradco and Jeld-Wen door manufacturers.
Active Gear Box Only – Manual “Handle Activated” gearbox replacements ONLY. Must have the (3) attachment screw locations to affix gearbox to existing lock strip face plate.
35mm (1 3/8″) and 45mm (1 3/4″) gearboxes available while supplies last. FUHR lock replacements have been discontinued and do not cross over to Hoppe systems. 1 3/4″ backsets were the most commonly used by Caradco and Jeld-Wen doors.
European full profile cylinder is located UNDER the Lever Handle. Center of handle to center of key hole is 3 5/8″.
Deadbolt is located BELOW striker latch when viewed at the edge of the door panel.
5/8″ wide steel faceplate. The FURH logo will be stamped on the faceplate approx 12″ above deadbolt.

Active Lock
Key Lock, Deadbolt, Striker Latch for Active panels on single or double doors. Can use Active handle set for exterior keyed entry OR In-Active handle set for No exterior keyed entry.
In-Active Lock
2 Point Lock for secondary double doors. Locks only with interior thumb turn. Must use In-Active handle set with interior thumbturn to lock the door and and disable the handle.
Passive Lock
2 Point Lock for secondary double doors. Locks only by lifting up on lever handle. Deadbolt insertion from Active door will disable handle usage.. Must use Passge handle set with No Thumbturn or Exterior key.

CARADCO. Over the years, the company was known by many different names. It was successively known as Carr Ryder and Engler Company (1890); Carr, Ryder and Adams (1897); and CARR, ADAMS AND COLLIER COMPANY(1938). The name “Caradco” was adopted in 1958 using the letters of its immediate predecessor. (1) At one time, the company had a network of branch plants and subsidiaries across the country and employed nearly one thousand people. Most of these operations had been sold by 1962. (2) While the company name had changed over the years, the ownership remained principally within the families of John Taylor ADAMS, who joined the firm in 1881, and James Currie COLLIER who entered the business in 1895.
In July 1960, the FARLEY AND LOETSCHER MANUFACTURING COMPANY announced that it would sell its plastic sheet manufacturing facilities to Durel, Inc., a subsidiary of Caradco. The facilities included the buildings bordered by Eighth, White and Ninth streets. Durel also rented ten thousand square feet of floor space in an adjacent building.

Caradco 4101341 Replacement locks are easy to install. The lock body mid-section part is easy to remove and then just put the new lock body in and connect up the transfer rails.
